Raine is part prairie songstress, part storyweaver; Each song has a story, delivered between songs with humour and grace. Raine invites the love of the violin into the singer-songwriter genre, writing for violin and voice, as well as for guitar and voice. Joined by cello and upright bass, expect string arrangements that push and pull, that move as they console. A classical violinist and musicologist by training, Raine and the trio offer string-quartet-like arrangements of Raine’s original songs. They call this chamber-folk, a hybrid of the classical tradition of string quartet chamber music, with the singer songwriter folk that comes so naturally to Raine.

For this special show, we’re excited to host two incredible acts on the same bill, Sarah Jane Scouten and Elise and Adam. ABOUT ELISE BOEUR & ADAM IREDALE-GRAY: A founding member of indie-folk band Fish & Bird, Adam Iredale-Gray is a versatile guitarist and fiddler with deep roots in Irish traditional music and a commitment to innovation. Fiddler and Hardanger fiddle player Elise Boeur draws from the wells of Norwegian and Swedish fiddle music, melds in fistfuls of arcane influences, and emerges with a multi-faceted sound grounded in Nordic traditions.

They say “Storytelling isn’t about the truth, it’s about what the truth should have been”. For Ben Cottrill, a decade of performing on streets and stages across Canada has given him a story that defines his soulful Folk-Rock style and resonates with the west-coast romantic in everyone.

Ben Cottrill has kept busy in recent years – chosen from 20,000 applicants across Canada to appear on CTV’s music series “The Launch”, he was one of a few select artists working with both Canadian legend Bryan Adams and industry mogul Scott Borchetta on the program.

Big Little Lions are an award winning duo who were born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Since then they have been cranking out infectious folk pop songs that are jam-packed with emotion and tight harmonies that sound like the product of two people working side-by-side instead of living in different countries.

Their live show is quite the spectacle with Paul playing drums, bass and keyboard all while singing lead vocals. Helen, who is no slacker either, sings, plays guitar and foot percussion. They use every limb, and then some, to make two people sound like a full band.

Kurt Loewen is a songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist. He previously spent much of his career in music writing, performing and touring with The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra.

Valdy, born Valdemar Horsdal in Ottawa, Canada has been part of the fabric of Canadian pop and folk music for almost 40 years. A man with a thousand friends, from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island to Texas to New Zealand, he’s a singer, guitarist and songwriter who catches the small but telling moments that make up life.

Remembered for Play Me a Rock and Roll Song, his bitter-sweet memory of finding himself, a relaxed and amiable story-teller, facing a rambunctious audience at the Aldergrove Rock Festival circa 1968, Valdy has sold almost half a million copies of his 13 albums, has two Juno Awards (Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year), a total of seven Juno nominations and four Gold albums to his credit.
