September 2, 2021 @ 9:00 am - September 3, 2021 @ 1:00 pm PDT
$349.00DUE TO CURRENT RESTRICTIONS, THIS EVENT IS INDEFINITELY POSTPONED.
Spend a spectacular two days in the Similkameen Valley, visit orchards, farms and fruit stands and get the ultimate farm-country canning experience!
In this two-day intensive, join our General Manager, Chris Mathieson (who has canned and put away thousands of jars of just about everything) as he provides an introduction to the basics of home water-bath canning and other home preservation techniques. Depending on what we find from our fantastic local producers or in the Grist Mill garden, we might make jams, jellies, pickles, relishes, flavoured vinegars and more. By the end of the session, you’ll understand the core techniques and equipment necessary to follow other food-safe home canning recipes. This retreat is designed for rookies and seasoned pros alike.
This experience includes:
- A day and a half of hands-on opportunities to show you how to choose the best produce, a variety of home preservation techniques and some blue ribbon recipes to start you off on the right foot.
- Two nights (Wed & Thur) in our creekside campground at one of our serviced sites (bring your own tent, trailer or camper — or book a room at one of our valley’s fabulous B&Bs.)
- Four exceptional meals
On Thursday: a farmhouse breakfast, a picnic lunch and a family-style long table dinner, all featuring the best the Similkameen Valley has to offer.
On Friday: a private brunch. - Several jars of our finished product(s) to take home with you for inspiration to continue your canning adventures.
- Special evening access to our gardens and our large selection of lawn and table games.
