After two years off, we’re excited to be bringing back evenings filled with some exceptional classical, traditional, folk, roots, world music, and acoustic blues talents as we welcome performers in the heritage gardens near our 1877 waterwheel-powered flour mill. We’re only a half hour drive from Penticton, OK Falls, Oliver or Osoyoos–come visit one of the most charming concert venues in the South Okanagan and Similkameen!

ARTIST INFO

Marin Patenaude’s confessional folk is deeply honest, inspired by the wildness of nature, the messiness of human connection, and the overwhelming desire to run away from it all. She’s from a little town called Horsefly in Northern British Columbia, Canada.

The daughter of musical parents, she was raised on folk, country, and classic rock and is very much at home with a piano, a guitar, and all the possible harmonies. She lived a lot of lives and wore many erroneous hats before sinking fully into music. Collecting random skills like one collects tattoos, one day she decided to make a record. A surprising first release, it’s full of gut punching beauty.

It’s a rarity to find an artist who is just as comfortable in the green fields of country/roots as they are in the smoky city backrooms of jazz and soul”

Michael Brennan (Ride The Tempo)

Before the world turned upside down, Marin joined Dallas Green’s Toronto based label Still Records in support of her second album. Sight Unseen shows a louder, grittier side of Marin’s indie folk sensibility.  Citing the influence of artists like Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, and Neil Young, there’s an underlying darkness beneath the clear, free spirited melodies. It’s big and it’s not always light. Her vocals are strong and technically trained, and she’s outspoken about the complexities of relationships and the uncertainty of our current existence.

“When I first heard Marin’s music, I was immediately struck by how pure her voice was. It made me think of Cowboy junkies, Aimee Mann or Lucinda Williams…in other words, classic.

KEY CONCERT SERIES INFO

Through the summer of 2022, we will be hosting a variety of exceptional artists in June, July, August and September for an evening concert series in our picturesque Historic Site. Unless otherwise noted, doors open at 6:00PM and concerts start at 7:00PM.

You are encouraged to bring your own blankets and low-rise lawn chairs; taller chairs are also welcome, but you may be asked to sit in the back to avoid obstructing the view of others. You’re welcome to bring your own water bottles (reusable or factory-sealed) but outside food or drinks are prohibited on site. The Grist Mill & Gardens will be operating a concession at each show.

As soon as we announce the performer for each show, you’ll be able to buy tickets for that show online. You’ll also be able to purchase tickets at our front desk beginning on June 1st, 2022.   Some tickets may also be available at the door on the night of the event, depending on availability, but a small additional surcharge will apply.
